Programming for the Arduino was going to start but it was decided that building the first part of the electronics needed to happen before programming in order to test code as it develops. An I/O list was created and three debugging potentiometers were scoped to change patterns and brightness. Three-conductor wire from a stereo audio cable was chosen to go between the Arduino and NeoPixels. Switches, potentiometers, NeoPixels, protoboard, and headers were taken from stocked parts.

Stocked components for this project

Components were soldered to the protoboard and arranged but not tested. The switches were given header pins so they can be attached and arranged as necessary. Only one switch was prepared by making a wire with a two-position female header on one end and quick-disconnect terminals on the other end.
